Suicide Bowl Traditional Cache

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been down for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Geocache Description:

On Cliffs Drive Just about a mile from Business M 28 (County Road) between Negaunee and Ishpeming.

This cache was placed on the last day event of the 116th annual ski jumping event at the Suicide Ski Bowl. This ski jumping event draws ski jumpers from many nations. Ishpeming Ski Club is one of the oldest clubs for ski jumping in North America and Ishpeming is home of the National Ski Hall of Fame. The fist day honors Paul Bietila. Paul, one of the "Flying Bietila Brothers", was a jumper back in 1939 who was hurt on a jump and passed away due to his injuries. The second day event is the Continental Cup and is international with countries from all over the world. The bowl is also used for training purposes. With the recent expansion of the iron ore mines just to the South and East the future of this jumping hill is done from year to year. There are plans to move the Suicide name to another location nearby. **** Cache container is a one gallon camouflaged jar with the following contents.... Canada TY Bear, Blue xtal Dragonfly, Blue xtal Bee, Darth Maul toy, Key fobs, toy Ligh sabre, Dice from Dam Cache 20, Waterworks card and Indiana cardfrom a Monopoly game, Assorted ski buttons and pins, Coins from foreign countries (Ski Jumpers), Austrian key fob, 6 aquarium stones **** This cache has a theme on ski jumping so items will be mostly related to ski jumping and winter sports but all are welcome with any items for trade. (((( I will be adding to this cache from time to time))))
