Many beaches on the west coast can be disappointing, but Ostal Beach or Kilbride bay is a perfect white strand. Turn your collar up and squint into the drizzle and you could be in the Aegean.
A bit of a drive from Dunoon but well worth it for the spectacular views of the Kyles of Bute. Indeed, you are tantalizingly close to that fabled Geocaching Paradise Island.
Park in the layby at N55 51.870, W05 15.603. This is the only access to the bay. Go down the track, stepping over the low chain placed to stop cars driving down to the beach.
Follow the sign to the beach halfway down the road.
When you get there, the view over the water to Arran will make you forget that you are in Scotland.
The cache is a medium sized tupperware container placed under an obvious feature.
