Welcome to Camarillo, again! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: Came out to see what might be going on with the proposed "trail" along the river: not much, as far as I can see [:(] Checked up on this, and the thing is gone. The tree that it was hiding under has grown quite a lot over the past year, and I had to work a bit to get in far enough to check up on it. The stuff that was covering it has all been moved, and there is no sign of the container. Oh, well; it lasted for five years, which is quite a while for an urban-sort of hide. We're going to archive this, which will open it up for others to hide something out here, unless we hide a couple of new ones ourselves [:)] Thanks to all who came out for this!

Geocache Description:

A second variation on a theme…

TRUROKR welcomed us to Simi Valley; Gold Star welcomed us to Fillmore; now it’s our turn to welcome you to our town. But you have to bring your own pencil; sorry about that

NOTE: This is no longer a multi-cache! It is now an offset.

BTW: you can ignore the "No Trespassing" signs. While this is technically true, walkers have never been prohibited from walking in the open area, as long as they don't leave any trash. The signs refer to vehicles, specifically dirt-bikes, which heavily (and illegally) use this area on the weekends. Weekday searching might be better, but if you have no choice, be aware of the little monsters. And their children .

The co-ordinates given are on a paved street in the Industrial Park in the Mission Oaks area. It’s legal to park on the streets, and there is an empty office-type building which parking lot you can use. Once safely parked, proceed to the obvious obelisk; the cache’s name should confirm your choice. Around it are numerous plantings of Camarillo’s official flower, which is also portrayed on the western face of the sign. Get a good, solid reading while standing or sitting on the north-facing edge of the sign. Ignore all the traffic whizzing by on the 101 freeway; they aren’t paying you any mind, either

The cache that you are searching for is about twice the diameter of a 35mm film can, and about half-again as high. It is made of semi-translucent plastic, painted in camouflage colors. It is big enough for small things - small polished stones, geocoins, smaller shells, rings, small balls, georged dollars, jeep T-Bugs - but nothing much larger (no matchbox cars, no screwdriver sets, no GPS food, no elephants, no refrigerators ), and not too many of the small things, for that matter.

To find it, you need to go .068’ east (that's "minutes of angle", not feet), and .028’ south, from the sign; that's why we told you to take a reading here. It shouldn't much matter what you get; it won't be too far off the given co-ordinates, but those don't really matter. Whatever you do get, make the adjustments required and head on out. This will put you along the fence that is the border of CalTrans property. NB: the freeway is not quite running due east-and-west along here. Once you are in the general area, if you are observant, you’ll see one spot that pretty-much sings, “Here I am!” Please be sure to rehide the cache well. Thanks, and good luck!
