Rocheport MKT Tunnel Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

*gln: Archived at the request of MoDNR. The DNR does require a permit. Generally good for only a year. I guess they can be renewed for another year but I am not sure. I would think that the cache can be moved to another location that would still highlight the area and qualify for a new permit.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache since '03. It looks to have been a very interesting spot.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Historic town of Rocheport on the Missouri River. The cache is just off of the MKT hiking trail on a side trail not too far from the parking areas. The trail leads to a lookout point that affords some great views of the river valley.

This hike can be pretty strenuous on a very hot day or after biking long distances. You can cool off afterward in the shade and lower temperatures in the tunnel. This cache is also a memorial to my best hiking buddy and truely man's best friend, Smidgen. This was the last hike she did before she passed away. I hope you enjoy it as much as she did. The container is a typical, green ammo can. The cache contains a log book, small memorial page to my dog, and lots of items to trade.

Interesting facts: The tunnel is the only one on the entire Missouri, Kansas, Texas Railroad line. It was also used in the final climatic scenes of the Steven King movie "Sometimes They Come Back".
