Lacock Abbey (Wilts) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Wombles:
I checked on this cache today after the Cornishpixies report and sadly it has been stolen. The hiding place had developed a cacher's path right up to it and so the location became compromised.

I have placed a new cache on the other side of Lacock to replace it.

Geocache Description:

Lacock is a beautiful National Trust village south of Chippenham. You'll have to access the cache through undergrowth. Suitable for children and dogs. Muddy after wet weather.

The National Trust village of Lacock has been used in numerous films including Harry Potter, Price & Prejudice, Emma and Moll Flanders. The architecture is mostly Tudor and can get very busy with tourists in season. Lacock Abbey is open March to September (NT) and famous equally for being the place where photography by negative was invented (by Fox Talbot), and one of three copies of the Doomsday book was kept. It is still largely complete having avoided the ravages of Henry VIII by becoming a family home. The Fox Talbot museum is a good museum of photography.

More details of the village are available here.

Snacks are recommended at "The Stables Tearoom" (try the toasted teacakes or cream teas - both excellent), and meals are good quality and value from "The Red Lion" and "The George".

Parking co-ordinates for the free car park are: N51°24.789', W02°07.141'. This location also has an information board about the village. An Ordnance Survey map for the overall location is available at this web site.

Whe suggest that you approach the cache with "dogged determination" to avoid an uncomfortable approach. Please do not cross any fences.
