Shock & Awe Traditional Cache
LavaLizard: As there's been no cache to find for months and there does not appear to be any action to restore the cache, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.
Please note: Geocaches that are archived due to lack of maintenance/communication will not be unarchived.

As 4-Wheeling goes, the trek to this cache is not too tough. However, if you're intimidated by being stranded in the middle of the desert, you may want to let discretion dictate when you abandon your vehicle to walk to the cache. Terrain difficulty will seem easier for some and harder for others.
This cache takes its name from the opening stages of Gulf War II, Operation Iraqi Freedom, which started just a couple of days before this cache was set in place. Shock and Awe was how the opening attacks on Baghdad were described, an absolutely stunning display of precision bombing, designed to demonstrate the overwhelming power of, and the inevitability of success by the coalition forces against the murderous thugs led by Saddam Hussein.
When you get to this cache site, YOU will be filled with Shock and Awe by the incredible desert vistas before you. Visit soon and often.
One way to get here is from Highway 14 by turning at N 35 30.040, W 117 56.929.
Second turn at N 35 27.495, W 117 54.692. At the Red Pole labeled Cudahay Mine and Schmidt Tunnel.
Third turn at N 35 27.259, W 117 55.160
For the last part of your trek you could use a 4x4 or just walk. You will be on dirt roads and trails with the likelihood of encountering very soft sand and sharp rocks.
As always when in the desert, bring plenty of water, regardless of season. It can get VERY hot during the day, and VERY cold at night.
