Geocache Description:

The location is a dry waterfall, an escarpment made of columnar basalt and a rhylolitic base rock formation. The terrain is easy to navigate, however be careful of loose rocks and mindful that small creatures inhabit this area, poisonous and nonpoisonous. There is no pottable water. Bring drinking water and snacks with you. A good pair of hiking shoes is recommended.

This spectacular natural wonder was created by the Bonneville Flood over 12-15 thousand years ago. Standing at the spill over of the falls you can see the deposition of boulders, sand and soil undulating down towards the confluence of the Snake River. This whole area is a geological treasure to experience. To envision the power of water that carved the alcoves and side canyons to their present day wonder is hard to put into words. That is why we decided to put series of cached in this area, to share the incredible geological gift with all of you that seek to experience what Crafty and I have shared with others. Enjoy to the fullest!

To find your way to the cache site, enter the area from the west or from the east. The west access is much rougher and slower. Turn right onto the Shoshone Falls power plant access road just past the north side of the Perrine Bridge. Follow it to the turnoff just before you enter the grade to Shoshone Falls power plant road and turn left. The road turns into a 4 X 4 road. There is a gate that you must go through, be sure to close it behind you. The east entrance begins at the Travelers Oasis truck stop found on Kimberly Road at Eden freeway access. Turn left onto the frontage road just north of the Oasis. This is the Vinyard road. Follow it to 900 South and turn left on 900 S. Follow it to the public land access gate. You will pass through a farmyard to the Public access gate. There are small children and dogs at this farm house, please be courteous and respectful. Make sure the gate is closed behind you. The roads are primitive and many.
