Geocache Description:

Located near a boat ramp off of SSR 119 in Colleton County.

The cache is hidden in a section of the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee, Edisto) National Estuarine Research Reserve. This is vast area of wetlands and forest covering a large section of coastal Colleton, Beaufort and Charleston counties. Much of the area is cared for by The Nature Conservancy, an international non-profit devoted to protecting natural resource areas.

I chose this particular location because it takes you back to a very scenic tributary of the Combahee on a road that brings you past plantations and blackwater fishing. (If you don't see some local folks wetting their lines, don't bother to try your luck.)

This area was at one time one of the primary rice growing regions of the world and you can still see the outlines of the rice paddies in the marsh. (Another reason I selected this particular boat landing is that the name has always amused me, especially considering the name of a nearby plantation.)

The cache container is an ammo box and is hidden in a convenient location that should keep you out of sight of the boat landing and picnic area long enough to write your log and make a trade.

Bring your fishing gear and kayak for this one. You won't need them to find the cache, but if you don't bring 'em, you'll sure wish you had!
