A little local knowledge should lead you to the right place.
There are loads of information boards on the island that can explain much better than I can the history of Lindisfarne, or Holy Island as it is also known. It suffices to say that there is probably more history on this small island than in most of the rest of Northumberland. Lindisfarne is also a fantastic bird watching site.
Please check the crossing times at (visit link) as the island is isolated from the mainland for parts of the day.
