Geocache Description:

Cache is on a small hill in the Shawmut area west of Mobile. Hill is popular with train watchers as the nearby tracks make an S and the trains slow as they pass by. Nice area for a quick trip into the desert.

- You do not need to cross the tracks to reach this cache and it is not on the RR right-of-way! -

I was shown this area by a train enthusiast friend. (He always corrects; they’re enthusiasts not nuts.) The train crews are accustomed to the audience, they usually sound their horn and wave as they pass.

We use this area when we need a little time in the desert and don’t want to travel far or deal with crowds. Cache is in a child friendly location (four year old tested). When we placed the cache we brought drinks, snacks, and a kite and made a morning out of it.

It is the desert; bring water and be careful reaching where you can’t see.
