Stoney Pond State Forest
Stoney Pond State Forest is a beautiful area surrounding manmade Stoney Pond and smaller ponds of varying sizes. Built in the 1950's, Stoney Pond State Forest remains a wildlife refuge, with canadian geese, other waterfowl, evidence of beaver work noted on our brief visit in late April. A "Nordic Ski Trail" weaves around the Forest with numerous interlacing routes identified by numbers in a fashion similar to a highway system, such that you can almost plan your trip based on the routes. There are at least 3 separate parking areas, including a campground at the south end of Stoney Pond.
Source of the cache name? Son Neil, age 10, says, "My dream is to hide a cache so high in a tree you have to climb to it." Dad, age 41, says, "I don't think so."
