Gems Of The Bypass Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rootman: The cache container and some contents were outside the hiding spot so I will be moving it. A critter might have gotten to it as the edges of the paper were chewed.

Geocache Description:

My friend, Canoe Cat, tells me that the "gems" are quartz crystals embedded in the limestone. If any geologists can provide more input I would appreciate it. (See notes of April 26 and Sept 17th,2003 by JD Hiker.) See some examples at 37*48.301 N, 085*49.919 W, across the road and about 1/3 mile west of the cache site. Walk along the rock wall and you will spot many more. In some cases the crystals have fallen to the ground and you can take them home. Take some trash, too, as these "canyons" seem to accumulate a lot of it.

Cache is a 6" X 6" Tupperware container. Location will be obvious as you approach. You can drive right up to it if you have four wheel drive. Otherwise, there is plenty of room to park on the very wide shoulders of the highway. Benchmark GZ2827 is nearby and easy to find.
