The cache is an ammo can and it is located West of the Milner Dam area. Requires good hiking shoes or a 4X4 with good clearance. (most trucks without running boards can make it)
This is a place where I go frequently. The big hole in the ground is an old chinese mine. Back when Milner was the County Seat and was a pretty big town, Chinese laborers mined in their spare time to make some extra money. They mined this area using sleuce boxes. Water was pumped from the river into the mine to extract gold using this method. If you hike around you can see some old pipes and old rusted out equipment. There are many interesting things to look at here but take care not to screw it up for the next people that visit. The access road is near the pull out and viewing area below Milner Dam. From there go West up the paved road that is parralel to the canal. Where the road turns right to cross the canal there is a dirt road with a cattle fence. Just open the gate and follow the dirt road until it ends. You will find yourself at the edge of the open pit mine. Please be careful to close the gate after yourself because cattle graze this land. Have fun!
