Every now and then the urge hits us to go to the country and just unwind for
a few hours. There is no better place in Ohio than Holmes county to relax, shop,
and eat at some of the finest home style restaurants you will ever find. Be sure
to drive down Rt. 62 and visit the shops in Winesburg. Tom bought Anna Mary a mantle
in this area for
Christmas that is made of an old barn ladder. It is one of a kind and beautiful!
Rt. 39 will lead you into the little city of Berlin. Here you will find all
styles of stitchery, craft, and gift shops. If you like wood crafting or camping
and hiking there are wonderful shops for you here too! Antiques and collectables
can be found in many of the shops here that will take your breath away! In fact,
there is something for everyone in Berlin. We were here on one trip and wandered
into a shop that just happened to have some Amish raised puppies for sale. Yup,
you guessed it. We brought home Mitch, the cutest little toy fox terrier you've
ever seen. He has become our favorite caching companion next to team Finding
Fraggle Rock !
Anna Mary and Mitch
Don't forget to eat while you are here! Many of the restaurants
offer a "family style"
option that is sensational. Save room for dessert! The peanut butter cream pie
is a specialty and so is that yummy date pudding. But don't be limited by those
suggestions. There are plenty more terrific eateries to choose from! For
snacking and take-home try a few of the numerous cheese makers in the area.
If you continue east down Rt. 39 you will reach the town of
Sugarcreek, filled with quaint shops in a Swiss Alps style. You can even go for
a one hour ride on the antique railroad, featuring a steam engine! It runs from May through October.
Have fun!
