The starting point for the walk is the Bymien Forest located at approximately S 25 57.173 E 153 06.190. This is 3 kilometers from the Rainbow Beach road down the Freshwater Track and though a bit rough is open to two wheel drive cars. There is a nice (but small) picnic area here in the rainforest with a couple of tables and toilets. The walk from here is a bit over two kilometers. Unfortunately your GPS won’t be of much help due to the tree cover but there are plenty of signs to follow. Allow 90 minutes for the round trip plus time for a swim.
The old cache went missing. I suspect with the lake full, its hiding spot ended up right at a new entry point to the lake and hence fell victim to some non players. The new cache is located further along the cooloola walk track. No need to bush bash as it is accessible pretty much from the track. It contains a collection of swap items along with the log book.
Based on the log from the thescoffs, it looks like the cache is not quite at the original location. We will get back there as soon as we can to check on it. In the interim, please use the directions from thescoffs log "We signed it and put it under the dead tree stump in an obvious hollow. This is just on the right as you reach the lake" We left this temporary replacement cache in place at the old location. This is just in case people are using older downloaded cache details.
