Geocache Description:

[:)] Note new location a few feet away from 1st location (8Mar04)[:)]

This is a micro hidden in a really neat spot. Bring your pen and enjoy the beautiful views.

This is definatly not a park and grab, unless you have a boat In fact, I hike to this location about once a month. From where I park it is close to a 12 mile round trip hike. I start down at the lower part of Clearwater Beach and hike to the North tip of Caladesi Island and back. I decided to place this micro on my hike yesterday. The micro is not quite to the tip but near the Lone Oak Point. Note: There are signs that say bicycles are prohibited.

- Plan your hike during a low tide or as the tide is going out. Unless you like walking in soft sand
- It takes me about 3 hours to hike, so plan accordingly.
- Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Over the years I have experienced many neat things on these trips. One memorable evening I had the privilege of watching a sea turtle lay her eggs. If you happen to see this, report the turtle nest to the Clearwater Marine Science Center at 727-447-0980. The number is manned 24 hours a day just for reporting turtle nests. Don't disturb the turtle! They are protected by federal laws. You can give the Science Center Biologist a Latitude and Longitude and they will come out and install a cage to protect the nest from preditors like raccoons and humans.

As for the cache: Sign the log, please rehide well and in the same location. Email me with the color and type of container for verification.

I always get great GPS readings at this location and the numbers are right on, so you should not have any trouble here.

If you want to take the easy route and take the ferry, information can be found at this site: (visit link)

Enjoy,

Addition 1May03:
Mother nature filled the gap and bridged Dunedin Pass, I think during Hurricane Elena 1985. You can now walk from Clearwater Beach to Caladesi Island.

Thought I'd add this to the page, thanks to Infosponge's log of 1May03
To qoute:
For anyone wanting to kayak this, there's a good page of information here: (visit link)
You can rent kayaks right on the Dunedin causeway.

2/10/04 This cache often turns up missing and I have to keep replacing it. If you go for this cache and find the actual cache missing but can DESCRIBE SOME UNIQUE FEATURE of where you think the cache was hidden, email me and take credit. Be sure to tell me it is missing so I can replace it on my next trek. Thanks! WildBill1

3/8/04 NOTE: that I replaced cache but in a slightly different location. COORDINATES HAVE CHANGED a few feet. The cache is hidden using exactly the same method of hiding as the method used to hide the old. Please rehide well as I have trouble with this cache disappearing. I think this is my 6th time replacing it. Coordinates should be right on --- used WAAS w/ 6ft accuracy and the view of sky is usually great here.

1/14/05 NOTE: that I replaced cache. Please rehide well as I have trouble with this cache disappearing. Remember, if you do not find the actual cache but can DESCRIBE SOME UNIQUE FEATURE of where you think the cache was hidden, email me to take credit.
