Geocache Description:

NOTE: The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. Read on to solve the puzzle for the location.

As I was walking through the trees
I heard a song upon the breeze
What did I hear? Oh could it be?
It was the purple breasted chickadee!

I have attached the transcript of the unique song of this rare bird, written from my memory of that sweet haunting melody. Perhaps it will also lead you to a place of great enjoyment!

This is the first cache of a series designed to show you historic sights in northern Tazewell County, Illinois.

The posted coordinates lead to the historic Candlewood Bridge, which is on the National Register of Historic Places:
(visit link)

The bridge was built in 1894 by Frederick Rickman and Jacob Habluetzel, because the city had filled up the original cemetary and needed to expand to the other side of Farm Creek.

The repairs to the bridge by Daily & Associates in 2002 earned them a Special Achievement Award from the Consulting Engineer's Council of Illinois, and were made possible by a donation of dolomite blocks of similar age by the City of Peoria.

Near the bridge is a parking lot, which is a nice place to leave your car while you hike to the cache which is within a half mile of the bridge.

The terrain is kid friendly, but watch for the geocacher's bane poison oak and ivy!

Thanks to the City of Washington for permission to place this cache on their property.

My memory is not what it used to be! I got a few critical notes wrong in the last verse, so if you printed out the score, please print out the corrected version!
