Johannisborgs castle was built by Johan , duke of Östergötland and the son of king Johan III, between 1614 and 1639. It was burnt down by the russians in 1719 together with the rest of Norrköping town. The portal tower survived and after being repared in 1934 it was declared a "national historic building".
