Geocache Description:

This cache will give you history of March 8, 1924 mine explosion outside of Helper, Ut

Once a thriving mining town of Castle Gate in Utah, now just a few old foundations exist. Since the 1924 disaster at Castle Gate mine, many other mine operations have come and gone. The most recent mine closing was due to similiar circumstances as the Castle Gate disaster where 173 miners were consumed in 3 seperate explosions on March 8, 1924. Included in the cache is detailed article concerning this historic event. Please take time to read and explore the small cemetary in this area.
