Geocache Description:

The cache is film canister hidden near one of Kentucky's 13 remaining Covered Bridges.

Built in 1855 by George Hockensmith, the Switzer Bridge once carried KY 1262 across North Elkhorn Creek. Louis Bower restored the Howe truss design bridge in 1906. It was also restored again in 1990. On March 1, 1997 the bridge was lifted off its foundation by a flood. The bridge was floated down stream and was pushed up against the nearby concrete bridge. When the floodwaters subsided, the covered bridge was left lying in the streambed. It was restored to its current location in 1998.

The State of Kentucky made the Switzer Bridge the Official Covered Bridge of Kentucky in 1998. At 120 feet long, 11.5 feet wide, and 12 feet high, the Switzer Covered Bridge is the only remaining covered bridge in Kentucky with a sawtooth edged entrance.
