Geocache Description:

Blue Crush Picnic Area

This site is located at a wonderful resort complex that is significantly different from most of the other caches on Oahu. It also is currently the most remote cache (in relation to other caches) on the Island. This area has a lot to offer both the geocacher and the geocacher's family that may have to wait patiently for them to finish. It is also child and stroller friendly with areas of grass, sidewalks, and large sandboxes.

If you drive to this location you will have to go through a security gate. Due to an agreement with the State of Hawaii to get their building permits the resort complex is required to let in anybody who says that they are driving to the beach. Parking is limited so it is advisable to get there early in the morning or later in the afternoon, especially in the summer as car parking queues are not unusual.

While wandering around the grounds (or while driving in) make note of the animals that are associated with the four irregular semi-elliptical water areas. These animals are the primary keys for finding this cache. The listed and the starting coordinates for this cache are at the top of the stairs from the largest parking lot.

This area is very child friendly but the last 20' ARE NOT. The cache is not hidden on the private property so the area has the potential for large waves. Please walk carefully and pay attention to where you are walking, DO NOT LOOK AT THE GPS WHILE WALKING. Do not go near the cliffs and if the waves are very large, try to find the cache on a different day. The cache is partially visible; this is a high tourist traffic area so please hide it well.

While wandering around keep an eye out for the many golden plovers patrolling their little plots of land, the plethora of mongooses that sneak out to get a little bite that might have been left behind by that last tourist group, the many kittens that seem to be the wild dominant species of this island, and if you are lucky the Japanese de-maiden ritual.

Instructions

You will need to determine the simplest one word name that best describes the animal's associated with the irregular semi-elliptical water areas in either English, Hawaiian, or Japanese. Choose the instructions listed below based on which language set you wish to use.

Your mission if you choose to accept it is to find a medium sized ammo box. This will require you to wander throughout the grounds getting clues necessary to solve this puzzle. I would recommend reading the clues thoroughly and developing a game plan before you start. This will ensure that you do not have to backtrack over areas that you have already been.

Before beginning you may wish to view the information signs at N21 20.082, W158 7.386 and N21 20.255, W158 7.452. Read the signs carefully since these will be used to solve the riddle below. To solve this project you will need to take the letters from the clue and convert them to numerals, on a scale where A=1 and Z=26.

The following calculations were based on WGS84, a Mercator Projection, and True North. It might be advisable to bring a compass, a pen, and some paper for this challenge. Note: Magnetic North is 10.1 degrees E of True North. The instructions are often linear; it will be necessary to walk around obstacles to get to the final locations.

Finding Instructions
There is no need to move anything to find this cache. It is well hidden so it may be necessary to look at a specific angle to see the cache.

Fine Print
-) The beach area is open from sunrise to sunset. That should be enough time.
-) This is a resort complex that allows individuals to come onto the property that they maintain. Please treat it with Aloha and respect the residents so that we may remain as welcome guests.
-) Several signs warn that areas in the vegetation areas are private property and that violators will be prosecuted. There is no need to go anywhere that signs say not to go and only to walk where there are well worn paths.
-) Signs say that there are no lifeguards on duty and that you should swim at your own risk. There are several lifeguards that are traveling around but there is no need to depend on them being around, be safe! This is a very safe place to swim (for all ages) but don't do something stupid.
-) There are signs that say there are dangerous sinkholes below some of the plantings or bushes, don't take a chance and find out that they mean it!
-) Please ignore the map since it is based on a different datum and will do little other than get you to the correct side of the island.
-) The cache may have to be rehid due to mother nature, I will keep a close eye on it for a while.

Congratulations
Great job, take a break and enjoy a picnic while watching the birds wander by.
