Total hike length: About 3 1/2 miles roundtrip - mostly on jettie, smaller portion on beach to lighthouse.
How long: About 2 hours
Quick details: Check tide levels, jettie is covered at high tide. Virtual requirement is either a picture of your GPS at the site, or email me with the number of windows on the lighthouse. Parking coords are provided below.
Wood End Lighthouse was first lit in 1872, and is the second oldest Lighthouse in Cape Cod. It used to have a Keepers house, and a wooden Sound Building, both of which have been demolished. The oil house is still standing.
The U.S. Coast Guard is leasing the Lighthouse to the American Lighthouse Foundation.
To start your adventure, park at these coordinates:
N 42 02.213 W 070 11.805
These will take you to a parking area, which is located at the Pilgrims first landing place. Then, walk across the Breakwater, which was built in 1911. At high tide it could be covered, so it might be best to go at low tide. After a small walk over the sand, you will arrive at the Lighthouse itself. It overlooks Provincetown Harbor.
This cache is a virtual, because there is only sand and sparse grass in this area, and since it is a National Park area there is no place to put a physical cache.
