"Ättestupan" Rangelhäll vid Prästtorpet. Enligt
tradition i bygden är stupet en gammal ättestupa.
Ättestupor är i folktraditionen höga stup,
från vilka man under forntiden ska ha knuffat eller kastat
ned åldringar, som var för gamla för att göra
skäl för maten. Det är mycket tveksamt om en
sådan här sed någonsin existerat, i varje fall
finns inga arkeologiska belägg för den. Ett av namnen
på berget, Rangelhäll, för ju osökt tanken
till benrangel och ond bråd död. Ett annat namn på
samma berg är Ragnarshäll, vilket ju lätt kan
förvanskas till Rangelhäll. Så kan möjligen
namnet, och med namnet traditionen om benrangel och ättestupa,
ha uppstått. Den förmodade "ättestupan" är
ingen fornlämning, även om platsen är omspunnen av
spännande sägner. Men den främsta anledningen till
att vi visat Dig vägen upp hit är den vidsträckta
utsikten.

”Ättestupan” Rangelhäll (Bonestone?) by
Prästtorpet. According to tradition in the area, the cliff is
an old “ättestupa.” In folklore these are
traditionally high cliffs or precipices where in the past those who
were no longer able to provide food for themselves were either
pushed from, or jumped on their own to their death. It is doubtful
if a tradition like this existed. In any case there is no known
archeological proof of it. One of the names of the mountain,
Rangelhäll, leads to involuntary thoughts of piles of bone and
violent death. Another name on the same mountain is
Ragnarshäll, which easily can be morphed to Rangelhäll.
So, possibly the name, and with the name the tradition of the bone
pile and ättestupa could have evolved The assumed
“ättestupan” is not an ancient monument, even if
the place is surrounded with exciting stories. But the most
important reason that we have shown you the way up here is the wide
open view.
