The original and ever so popular GHMCMC Series has officially been
retired. This cache which represented stage 12 will remain as a
stand alone traditional cache.
Your hunt of the “Evergreen
Tunnels” cache will take you on an easy 1 Km hike to
the cache location. You will start off by passing through a
naturally wooded area and then a series of
“man-planted” evergreen patches which contain the
tunnels. The recommended parking coordinates are N43° 45.601,
W79° 40.287. If you take the correct trail, you will enter the
wooded area at N43° 45.601, W79° 40.066 at which point the
trail forks. You should choose the trail to the left to assure
getting to pass through all the tunnels. The longest, which is my
favourite, is the Cedar Tunnel. The kids will love it.
This piece of geography is an old conservation area which is gated
against automobile entry. The outer gates at the parking
coordinates are opened daily for access to the horse ranch. The
second set of gates are usually closed and locked. This is a very
popular spot with dogs who like to let their masters run off-leash.
There is also a horseback riding ranch in the park but you would
not be able to take one on the cache hunt. (Sorry Flick),
The cache contains the usual cache trade items and log-book. Due to
the limited view of the sky at the cache site resulting in minimal
sat-lock, I have included some very descriptive info in the
“Hints”. I suggest having it along with you. There is
no bushwacking necessary to find this cache. Stay on the trail
right to the cache area and remember to put on some MOSQUITO REPELLENT.
