Geocache Description:

An overall easy hike to a cache located in Island County's Kettles Park.

Background History:
On May 20th, 2003 Roy Evans celebrated his 94th birthday by hiking on his trail and helping to place the cache. Roy Evans was a long time Scoutmaster of troop #59. He is also a member of the Whidbey Island Masonic Lodge and won the Daniel Carter Beard award that is awarded to Scoutmasters. While he was the Scoutmaster of troop #59 he lead 83 boys to the title of Eagle Scout. Nine of the boys received their Eagle Scout at one time, which is a feat that would make any Scoutmaster proud. Roy is also a National Presidents Scoutmaster Award of Merit recipient, the first from the Pacific Northwest to receive that honor. Two years ago Shep, the former chairman of the Island County Trails Council, named a half-mile trail after Roy. The day that the trail opened Roy came out and walked the entire trail himself.

Cache Info:
At mile post 24 on State Route 20 there is a place to park on the west side of the road. Take the trail into the kettles park at the gate. Continue hiking on this trail until you see a sign that says Kettles Trail. Turn right or north onto a currently unmarked trail, (know as Humpty Dump on a map). Follow this trail along until you come to the Roy Evans Trail on the left side of the trail. Let your adventure begin .

This cache is in a ammo box. As it is painted camouflage it may be had to spot, so don’t give up! Please make sure that you replace the cache with care.
