Geocache Description:

Come join your fellow cache-a-holics for a family geocache picnic event in Monterey, CA, Saturday, June 21st, from 4 PM to sunset on the longest day of the year! Some semi-organized activities for both kids and g'r'ups, grassy areas to play in, and five caches nearby in case you haven't done them before.

This is a casual picnic event at Monterey's Veteran's Park. Come anytime from 4 PM to sunset during your own longest-day-of-the-year cacheathon!Central Coast Geocachers of California

Bring your own food/beverages and/or potluck to share if you're so inclined. We have a site reservation that includes a big barbecue pit, for which the fire will be provided by the organizers, so bring your grillables and barbecue tools.

Please bring an item for a group cache! AltDotAir will supply the ammo can and logbook; the cache will be placed later (see below for details).

Camping is available in this park, first-come, first-serve. Camping fees are $20 for the first vehicle, $5 for the second (no more than two per site!), tents-only sites (no cars) are $8. Showers and restrooms are on-site.

Our reserved spot is right next to the nice playground in the park, and near a big grassy area for playin' around in.

Dogs are fine on-leash, clean-up-after-them please; safe and great park for kids but please plan on supervising your own. Picnic spot is semi-disabled-accessible with some assistance/difficulty over an unpaved but level surface from the nearest parking area.

We've got some events in various stages of organization:

  • Mini-Cache hunt for kids! Each kid gets her/his own mini-cache to hunt for! (Please see RSVP instructions below.) Kids can keep the contents as a prize and take away the cache containers for future placement.
  • The unveiling of the tribute traveling micro virtual game puzzle cache, ''Not Just Another Short Walk'', in honor of the greatest cache-hider on the coast. If JaSW can make it, he'll get first choice of where this goes!
  • A Bring-A-Newbie Cache Hunt to several nearby caches, leaving from the picnic area at about 4:15. Bring a newbie to cache with friends!
  • A Tall Tales of Caching contest, to be held around 6 pm over dinner (or whenever the Newbie party returns, if later); tell your favorite caching story, with or without embellishments. Attendees will vote for the best story, and the winner will be bestowed with the honor of placing the cache we assemble (don't forget to bring an item!)
  • Signature item swapping -- bring multiples of yours to swap if you don't want to have to hunt them down.
  • Cache Camouflage Contest: bring your favorite camou'd container or a picture of it. Winner will receive some Geo-Swag from www.geocaching.com.
  • Trash Out Contest: the Caching team that can pick up the most (otherwise unsecured) trash in the park by sunset will win a brand new (used) ammo can, and bragging rights in the form of their photo being posted to this cache page forever! We'll supply the Cache-in, trash out bags.
RSVP/Find Instructions:
  • If you're planning on coming, Post a Note indicating how many on your team will attend. You may want to put this cache on your Watch list to monitor for any changes.
  • If you attend, you can post a Find of this page afterwards.
  • If you have kids who'd like to do the mini-cache hunt, please email AltDotAir at {geocacher at fastmail.fm} with the number, and the gender/age of the kids (so we may place the mini-cache with appropriate prizes and levels of difficulty). Give us an idea of how hard to make the mini-caches if you can. Please do NOT post this information on this web page for what we hope are obvious reasons.
  • PLEASE POST OR EMAIL US IF YOU CAN HELP OUT A LITTLE with the Trash-out, Kid-Cache, or Newbie-Hunt events.
Don't forget to bring food/drink, utensils, an item for the group-cache, and your cache-a-holic self!

See you there, on the longest day of the year!
