Geocache Description:

Another DCexplorer lighthouse cache, kid-friendly, full-size ammo box

This cache is located near the Sturgeon Bay canal / lighthouse entrance on Lake Michigan's western shore. In 1881, the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal was completed, bisecting Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. Grateful mariners were able to bypass "Death's Door" while approaching Green Bay from Milwaukee, Chicago, and other coastal cities of the great lakes.

18 years later, a 98-foot tall light tower was constructed on the Lake Michigan shoreline, illuminating the entrance to the canal. It continues to shine brightly today. At this park, you will find a pier that you may walk out on, a nice sandy beach to play on, and a nearby benchmark for benchmark hunters. Please note that private property and other restricted areas are clearly marked.

Amongst the sand dunes and vegetation you will locate a army green ammo box filled with trinkets to share or exchange and a visitor log.. This is an excellent cache for nighttime Geocachers.
