This cache was removed from its hiding spot by a park ranger on 8/15. As those that have visited the area have noticed, there are no signs or other indications that cache location was on park property. We will wait a month or so before we archive this page to allow those that have visited but not posted yet a chance to make an entry.
The trail head is in an unmarked parking lot on Rt. 3, 1 mile South of the intersection of Mt. Desert and Main Streets in Bar Harbor. (N44 D 22.429'; W068 D 11.847'). This is a short, but nice walk through the woods and along the shore to a "stairway to nothing." Aproximately .1 to .2 miles from the parking lot take the trail as it bears left. When you get to a large old multi-trunk pine tree, take the path that is to the right of the tree. You will find the steps at N44D 22.482"; W068D 11.546'. Climb the steps to look for the cache. The hint is fairly explicit. Don't decode unless you need to.
