Byker Hide (Bucks) Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Graculus: This cache has been in a bad state of repair for a considerable period and as the owner has not responded to logs I consider the cache to have been abandoned so am archiving it.

Guidelines: "As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Close to Leighton Buzzard and between the villages of Mentmore, Billington and Slapton lies the small Hamlet of Grove. This cache will take you on a short Waterside stroll down a stretch of canal.

This is a single part cache that requires you to pick up several digits along the towpath by a canal. The Co-Ordinates will take you across a lock gate by a pub, you are then required to walk down the towpath to collect a couple of other digits. We recommend you park in the Pub overflow carpark. I'm sure they will not mind and if your thirsty they do a lovely pint of Honeydew beer! Make your way OVER the canal and begin the quest for the cache....

Use this to help you fill out the Co-ordinates that currently look like this:

N51 AE.DB0 W000 EF.FCC

Fill the gaps as you answer

You'll pick up the digits to replace the letters as we go along....

Location (1) Dated Paving Slab:

Here is a paving slab that has been marked with a date when the cement was not set take this date and look at the day - This number is equal to A. Then take the month and take away the last digit of the year, this is equal to B.

Now, with the pub infront of you, turn left and continue down the footpath.

Location (2) Drain/Underground installation:

Carry on your walk down the towpath until you come to a drain about a 0.24 of a mile from the start location. Its the first and only drain with numbers written on it along the path so you shouldn't have problems. Take the lowest number you can see at the bottom right of this drain- This is equal to C. Take the other 2 digits at the bottom right and add them together this is equal to D.

Carry on walking and keep looking to your left til you see a small sign at the side of the towpath Labeling the distance to Braunston...

Location (3) The Sign Post:

This sign post is the final part you need to find, all you have to do is take the first digit of the distance and take away one to get the answer to E.

Then the second digit of the distance to Braunston plus 1, is equal to F.

Now you should be able to get the co-ordinates. Go over the stile into the field

Note: DON'T follow your GPS, go to the Bridge, otherwise you will have to walk more than need be!

and make your way to the cache, following footpaths. You will also see in the distance the Spire in Leighton Town centre which is the lovely location of the I-Spire Cache. Other caches are also within close proximity.

Happy caching, Dan & Pid.
