Geocache Description:

This would be a straight forward cache but for some reason the best achievable accuracy was 4.8m. Though a short distance away, I recommend that you use the beach car park to avoid attracting the attention of the local police who may not approve of parking a vehicle on the road next to the cache.

The following extract is taken from the log of Scarinian. I could now see the gazelle which had crossed the Maqta Creek onto the Island suggesting that there must be sweet water there and so I to crossed and followed the beast to the far end. (A note from Scarinian’s Archivist: Scarinian was not the only person to witness this event which has entered Abu Dhabi legend as the way that the island was found and subsequently occupied.) When I had travelled the length of the island I was hot and tired and so I sat under the shade of a palm on the silver sand with the gentle crystal clear blue water lapping gently on the beach. After some moments I spied a pearl fishing vessel close to shore and I hailed it asking for passage. The men on board readily agreed. Then I recalled the foretelling of the Old Widow Hag from Kingdom: “Listen well, for you must not take the Scared Food Container of Sweihan onto any sea vessel because the crew will take undue interest and attempt to take it from you and, if lost, those that follow will not be able to complete the quest”. What wise words indeed and so seeing some bushes close by I went amongst them and concealed the Scared Container. Sheathing the Enchanted Sword of Scalim I hailed the ship a second time and with a flurry of sails it changed tack onto a bearing which would bring it to where I stood...

A note from the Scarinian archivist: It took considerable effort to find out why Scarinian should call this cache “Memories of Shell Beach” and we eventually found the answer contained in a letter written by the Marquis of Bateen to the Duke of Al Ain that included the paragraph “Scarinian described how he enjoyed travelling to 1992 and walking upon a deserted beach of silver sand with crystal blue water lapping gently against the shore. The sea teemed with small fish and along that beach he would walk collecting shells. He found many gorgeous ones of all types and sizes. And when he had walked his fill he would sit and look out to the main city breakwater. The road upon it comprised a single carriageway leading to a few restaurants. On one occasion however he inadvertently visited 2003 and the shell beach had gone replaced by a mighty building construction, the breakwater he described as hardly recognisable".
