Stoney Brooke Park is 70 acres of grassy fields, swampland and brooks with a large number of trails.
Dam area is the site of Middle Iron Works dated to 1712. Here bog ore was smelted in a charcoal furnace and wrought into iron blooms by a great waterpowered hammer. The mill across the brook,[ private property and posted ], was used to grind corn until the machinery was damaged by the flood of 1955, which also washed away most traces of the iron works. Boy Scout troop # 260 worked on some primitive campsites near dam at some point,I found area but it is just a clearing. It now waits for when the town needs it?
We hiked the two major trails and found the one that goes straight back after passing thru gate, and follows brook to be the best.
