Sulphor Springs Soldier Multi-Cache

Rabbit 282: Unfortunately the monument at this cache site has been destroyed by vandals. The site has been a night and weekend hang-out for years (the original inspiration for the cache) and it's highly unlikely the geocaching community had any involvement in the vandalism. The cache has been disabled. Thank you to everyone who shared in this experience paying respects to the memorialized and appreciating our local history.

Because I can no longer maintain this cache, I will not be re-opening the entry in another form or in the case that the monument is repaired. I encourage anyone in the community to revive this cache site with a new cache if you're able.

39° 22.ECB
89° 43.DFA

A = number of buttons on the blouse
B = number of stumps on the monument
C = last number in the year of the soldier's death
D = number of bayonets
E = soldier's age minus 23
F = number of pockets on the blouse multiplied by 2

I heard about this monument while visiting my family home one weekend. One story says it is the statue of a Confederate soldier. Another story said the statue did cool party tricks like smoking cigarettes if you put them in his ear. One story is obviously false. The other I haven’t proven. I guess that’s what happens when these things are only found in the middle of the night by drunken teenagers. My navigator brought me to this location from the south so I got a much more scenic tour of the area than I would have by approaching from Nilwood.

The site is very nice in the daylight and open to the public. Walk around and do some reading if you have the time. My father was astonished at the number of infants and toddlers.

Cache is a cammo covered plastic jar.

Cache contains:
logbook + pencil, toy soldiers, toy car, keychains
