The Bighorn Sheep Cache is our 44th geocache
and is located just a few miles outside of Rapid City along
Sheridan Lake Road. This cache offers an opportunity
to view an old homestead, lots of wildlife including bighorn
sheep, deer, hawks and other local species. The very easy going,
mile long walk ends at the cache site with a spectacular view of
Spring Creek below.
How to get there: Sheridan lake
road connects Sheridan Lake and Rapid City. The place to park is
at the Bighorn sheep management sign at location N 44 00.025 W 103 21.182. Now just hike up the road past the old homestead
until you reach the area of N 43 59.426 W 103 21.095 and then
travel along the ridge to the cache coordinates. Watch out for
poison ivy (shiny 3 leaved plant) as it often is found growing in
these limestone areas where the grass is thin.
Finding the cache: The cache
is a waterproof container painted green and hidden where there is
an incredible view of the stream and valley below.
We
hope you enjoy this cache as much as we did creating it!
