Geocache Description:

I WILL DELETE ANY SPOILERS(LOGS/PICTURES) THAT INDICATE WHERE THE CACHE IS LOCATED. A picture of the view is OK. BYOP. USFS PERMIT

Located on a high bluff with a million dollar view ACCESSED ONLY BY WATER on White Iron Lake.

Approximately three and a half miles south of Ely, MN on Highway 1, turn left on to road #655 and proceed to co-ordinates N47 51.694 W091 49.249.

From the boat landing, by water, travel 1 mile SE. Go around the point to SE side to land your boat. This rates a 5 because you need a boat to get there- otherwise, once you are there, it is a 3.

White Iron Lake is one of four lakes formed by the damming of the Kawishiwi River during the logging era. The name comes from a silver exploration on the NE end of the lake. Silver equates to "white" iron as opposed to the "red" iron ore that was mined in the area. The silver cave can still be seen(only from the water) in low water to the right a little past the Silver Rapids Bridge in a rock outcropping.

Kawishiwi means"land of the beaver" in Ojibwe. In places, the Ojibwe thought the Kawishiwi to be the land in between Heaven and Hell for the spirit to rest after death.

Although this lake adjoins the Boundary Water Wilderness, it is heavily populated - both with tourists and locals, using the lake for multi-purposes year round. Our family cabin has been here since 1917.

The cache is a 2 qt blue and white plastic thermos.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OR LIGHTERS IN THE CACHE
