BEARly off the Trail Traditional Cache
Kite and Hawkeye: We'll be removing the box when we get a chance. Too much poison oak around here, and the cache has had a good long life. Thanks to everyone who found and logged it!

A medium-sized ammo box located in one of our favorite local parks.
From the main trailhead on Genesee Av., the cache is an easy half-mile walk on mostly flat terrain. You can cut the walk to under .2 miles if you enter at the Cobb trailhead, but you'll have to descend a long staircase to the canyon floor. You can also reach this cache by a trail from the Queen's Ridge cache.
Poison oak abounds in this canyon, especially during the summer. It lines much of the trail, but it is entirely possible to reach the cache without touching any. However, you MUST know what it looks like in order to avoid it. There's an informational kiosk at the Genesee trailhead with pictures (and a fascinating list of folk remedies).
GPS signals are spotty near the cache due to tree cover, but the hint is fairly explicit. The cache is quite near the trail and it is NOT in poison oak, although there is some nearby.
Bikes are allowed on the main trail, as are leashed dogs. There are bathrooms at the Genesee trailhead.
Initial cache contents include: geocaching buttons, mini-frogs, little play-doh canisters, a photo-holder mousepad, a kazoo, a charades game, hardware-shaped pushpins, sock holders, giant paperclips, and a break-at-home geode.
