Geocache Description:

This is a fun, short (<1 mile) but steep (400' gain) hike. Start point is west end of Baxter Drive in the Serene Lakes development. Some brush and rocky slopes. 6900' start altitude. NOTE !!!!!!: Currently surrounding land owned by the Truckee Donner Land Trust, allowing full access when Royal Gorge XC ski trails are closed. Sugar Bowl now runs the Royal Gorge Ski Resort in winter. Contact them for winter access. See: http://www.tdlandtrust.org/

You can go cross country (some brush)or follow XC ski trails part of the way. On the way, you will pass through some nice old-growth red fir and western white pine, and you may see some some huge lava rocks, and nice views of Castle Peak to the NE. Near the cache site there are great views of the Palisade Creek basin, Devil's Peak, Snow Mountain, and the American River canyon. Some interesting items in the Rubbermaid clear container include two outdoors books and a one-use ($4 value)camera. Please take your picture and leave the camera! Please be careful around the cliffs to W/SW of site. We cannot maintain this cache now due to injuries and illness. I hope someone can take it over.
