Geocache Description:

One of three crossings of the Continental Divide on I-80 across Wyoming.

This location marks the Continental Divide of this part of North America. In theory, if you spill water on the west side of it, the water will end up in the Pacific Ocean. If you spill water on the east side, it will end up in the Atlantic. In reality, there is a drought and you should not be wasting water.

In May of 2001, my family and I went on a trip from Utah to Omaha. After leaving Rock Springs, the storm hit. The blizzard conditions were so bad we could not see the reflectors on the side of the road and had no idea if we were even on the road. The snow kept coming and the wind howled. We noticed some tail lights nearby and decided to fall in behind these other cars and park for the night. We uncharacteristically had no warm clothes or sleeping bags. The weather was so bad we nearly froze. In fact, by morning the snow had piled up about halfway up the windows on the car. It took me quite some time to dig us out.

The next morning, still in blizzard conditions but running out of gas to heat our car we got back on the road and spent two hours driving the twenty-five or so miles into Rawlins where we spent two nights waiting for the roads to open. On our way to Rawlins we had to use the delineator posts to mark our position on the road, they were the only thing we could see. We did however come across a car stopped sideways across the road and stalled out. I tried to help but the two women inside were dressed in shorts and sandals and didn't want any assistance. Some trucker probably slammed into them.

When we finally got to Rawlins every hotel was packed and we were offered a break room at one hotel. We instead put our name on a waiting list and got a room in a couple of hours. We never made it to Omaha, but on our way back to Utah, we stopped at the place we spent the night in our car. What we found was this sign. It made us think of pioneers and the crap they went through without heated cars and hotels.

To log this cache e-mail me with the names of five of the ten rivers listed on the sign as well as one of the two bodies of water mentioned. Or, you can log this cache by posting coordinates of a location where you personally went through some sort of survival struggle. Please include the story.
