The cache takes it's name from the nearby Wyrley and Essington
canal, which became known as the 'Curly Wyrley' due to the fact
that it winds around to follow the contours of the surrounding
land- so there are no locks. In places the canal is higher than the
surrounding land, but this is due to the surrounding land subsiding
due to mining, and the canal banks being built up to compensate.
This is a new cache location a little further from the W&E
following the trashing of the cache in November 2004.
There's some parking nearby at N52 38.337, W001 58.442, and a
few other places. The turn for this parking place is just off the
B4154 Pelsall-Heath Hayes/Norton Canes road, about 30yds from the
Royal Oak Fingerpost pub and canal bridge, in the
opposite direction to Pelsall village.
This section of the canal makes for a pleasant stroll, and
there's some nice views around the cache site. The Beacon Way runs
near to here, as does the Timberland Trail. We've placed 2 other
caches near the Beacon way:
Hay Head Wood, and Park
Lime Pits, though they are a few miles from here.
The cache is a black-painted ammo box. The coordinates above are
NOT for the cache itself. Go to the coordinates given. You'll find
2 identical iron plaques here, each with 2 words on it.
If A the number of letters in the 1st word, and B is A+2, C is
the number of letters in the second word, and D is C divided by 2,
then the cache is located at N52 38.AB3 W001 58.3DC. There is a
camera in the cache, so please take a photo and return the camera-
I will post the photos online when it's finished.
There's 2 clues: The first is the words on the plaques, but with
no spaces (!), and the 2nd is a normal hint for the cache
itself.
