Wayland 1.0 - Upper Mill Brook Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CacheNCarryMA: The stump with the hidden compartment was completely rotted and broken up into seven or eight wedges. I retrieved the ammo can and easily shredded the wet, mushy wood into mulch.

For future searchers who need to know the location of W1.0 in the search for the unlisted cache and mystery cache in this tract -
Wayland 1.0 was located eight feet downhill from the large Y-shaped oak at the Y-shaped trail intersection (intersection "G").

PARKING

Long Hike (~2 mi.)
Parking available at Peace Lutheran Church on Route 126 - N42° 22.676 W71° 21.428. Trailhead at the back of the parking lot, behind the far corner of the chainlink fence and gray shed - N42° 22.696 W71° 21.404.

Short Hike (.25 mi)
Park at the bottom of Peartree Lane near Glezen Lane and use the unmarked trailhead on the corner.

TRAIL
This is an interesting walk through a variety of fields, wetlands and woods, through a network of trails, with some slight hills. Total distance is about two miles roundtrip from parking to cache or as little as ¼ mile if you’re resourceful (park at the bottom of Peartree Lane and subtract one star for terrain, using the trailhead at the corner). Trail maps are available at the Wayland Public Library. Dogs are welcome. Trails are bikeable. Bug repellant is a must!

CACHE
Cache container is a gray .50 cal ammo box secured with a combination lock.

To find the combination to the lock, you’ll need to know the year that Wayland was named (18??). This year is posted as the incorporation date on some of the standard highway markers at the town lines, while some signs show a date in the 1700's (when the town was incorporated as "East Sudbury" ). Add fifty-five to the 1700's incorporation date to obtain the 1800's date. Check the town website to be certain.

Restore the cache exactly as you found it.
Close the lock and scramble the combination.

Please leave the bug repellant in the cache.
