Close to the second highest peak in South Africa, on a well known hiking route we put our cache under a small overhang guarded by a fierce little gecko.
The closest you can come by vehicle is to a vehicle park at S28°43.653’ E028°53.460’. From here it is a 2 to 2.5 hour walk up the mountain along a trail. Children can do this trip, but under supervision and preferably from 10 years of age and older. Plan for a 4-5 hour round trip from the car park.
When you get close to the cache, the rock formation blocks out the satellite reception resulting in inaccurate GPS readings. I have therefore added an additional GPS reading from an approaching position. This approach position is at S28°44.852’ E028°52.814’. From there use the “GoTo” function on the GPS for a direction. I have added a picture from this position indicating the cache. It is about 3m higher and 7m away.
The cache is a 2liter plastic container painted black, see picture.
Enjoy the cache and the view!
