Arkanum XIX - Die
Sonne
In Anlehnung an die Großen Arkana des Tarots
nimmt mein 5. Cache in dieser Reihe Bezug auf die Karte "XIX - Die
Sonne".
muss.
Viel Spaß bei der Suche!
My 5th cache in this series follows the
themes of the Major Arcana and refers to the card "XIX - The
Sun".
Judging by how well they
are known, the sundials in the vineyards along the Mosel River are
the most famous ones of their kind. One of those rich monasteries
along the central Mosel River may be the initiator of the idea of
the sundials. It is assumed that the abbot of Himmerod Monastery
was the first one to install a sundial in the region’s vineyards.
Going upstream along the Mosel River from Ürzig to Filzen, one will
encounter a total of nine of these timepieces.
The coordinates will lead
you to Ürzig, to the presumably oldest sundial along the Mosel
River. It is the only one of the old sundials that has Roman
numerals (while all the others have Arabic dials) and is located on
the ruin of the watch tower of Urley Castle, one of the former
three castles of Ürzig.
Hidden at the foot of the
vineyard, diagonally below the sundial, is a film canister with the
coordinates of the main cache. The photo in the cache description
was taken exactly from that position.
The distance to the cache
does seem to be small, but you should rather not try out the direct
way up
!
Please do approach the
main cache only if you have the proper footwear and if you are
sure-footed, since the area is slightly sloping. Furthermore, you
should remember to look for the micro at the side of the
street.
Enjoy the hunt!
