Commemorating School Days of old Crook County

This cache is located just a short distance from where the old Cross Keys school stood. Begun some time around 1880 or 1881, classes were held here until the building was auctioned off and sold for $75. It was moved a short distance away and demolished for the wood it contained (a common end for unused schools). At its heyday there were over 35 students in attendance and the teacher received a hefty sum of $55 a month salary. Once again, beware of zooming aliens (those roads always seemed to pick schools to stir up the dust!) and wildlife. Many cervids have been spotted near here.
