a trip back in time.
Inlet NY , Adirondack Park.
1/2 trail, 1/2 bushwacking and climbing, about 3 hrs round trip, bring topo map, hiking boots.
Rt 28, between Eagle Bay and Inlet , park at trail head for Black Bear mtn.
First half of your trip: follow the trail to Black Bear Mtn., this is an old logging trail and is very wet most of the time. About a mile in, choose cross contry ski trail (straight) rather than turning off ( a right) and heading up to Black Bear. Trail is narrow and goes through 2 fields. Now the bushwacking part ....
in the 2nd field there is a rock cairn, turn left at the cairn and go into the pines and down the ridge to the waterfall (really cool!).
Cross the stream and head north, through the spring runoff area than up the back slope of Rocky Mtn..
Coordinates will bring you to a rock cairn. A survey marker is embedded in the rock. It was placed by Verplanck Colvin ( first accurate surveyor of the adk region) and his
survey crew in 1892. It marks the interesection of 3 large tracks of adirondack wilderness : the John Brown , The Moose River Plains and the Totten - Crossfield Tracks.

Cache contains log book and pencil, and stuff every good survey crew needs to stay in the woods for a while: pip cleaners,a few fishing supplies, little bear statue, rabbits foot , bear crossing magnet, and an adk. geo coin.
