17 miles upstream from Lowell is the spectacular Selway Falls, with natural sandy beaches and hiking trails nearby.
The ammo box is near Race Creek Campground which boasts lots of thorny berry bushes. Reception is a little spotty so if you obtain better coords, let me know.
The FS road SE of Lowell is paved for 12 miles, then is a good graded gravel, albeit narrow in spots. Several campgrounds line the road, and during the spring you will see kayakers floating the rapids.
Nobody tries to navigate Selway Falls. Those huge boulders create catastrophic cataracts and massive swirling eddies. It's a sight to behold. I'm told during the 1974 flood, the water was so high the falls were washed over, with just swirling flatwater above the rocks.
The day I set the cache a helicopter was filling its bucket from the Upper Selway and carrying water to a forest fire on a southern ridge. Usually the only sounds are children playing by the beaches and an occasional ATV on the road.
