Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches sit disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon. If you can get it back up and running very soon contact me to get it relisted.

Geocache Description:

An archived "golden oldie" of a geocache that deserves a second chance at life.

This geocache, originally placed by JoshGray in January 2002, is one of the original geocaches hidden in and around the city of Columbia. It's not too difficult and near a surprisingly great view, probably one of the best vistas you'll find in a Columbia city park. Unfortunately, the original cache went missing in action in December of 2002 and it was subsequently archived.

HUGE props go to rocketmanc99, who scavenged what he could of the original contents from the bottom of the cliff, including the logbook, and held on to them for seven months! Photos of the original logbook pages are below, and some of the salvaged trinkets that were in good condition have been hidden in the new cache, along with lots of other goodies.

Following is JoshGray's original description for this cache. The tupperware container has been replaced by an ammo box (clearly labelled as a geocache), and it's been painted to match its surroundings a little better than the original. If you've already found this cache before, c'mon out and find it again, sign in the new logbook, and enjoy the view once more. Besides, otherwise it'll just sit at the top of your unfound caches list! Please make sure to replace the cache as you found it, with just as much (or more) natural cover.

The cache is in a park just off the University of Missouri – Columbia Campus in Columbia, Missouri. You can expect about a 0.5 mile hike from either trail head. No bushwhacking required. Be careful near the cache as there is a uncharacteristically large cliff for Missouri near it. You DO NOT need to scale it at all.

Capen Park offers many activities including running, biking (some nice singletrack), and rock climbing. Some of my best photo’s have come from this and the surrounding area. You will be sure to see people walking their dogs and bikers on the trails near the cache in the wooded area (so watch out). Take some time to explore a little, and check out the sites. When it is in season the area in the center is full of wild flowers. Also, if you are looking for a nice bike ride - the park service has just linked up trails recently so that you can ride from this park all the way to the MKT staying on trails for almost the entire way.

Park at either of the trail heads (off old 63, or Rock Quarry) - I would suggest the old 63 but it's up to you.

Cache is a rectangular rubbermaid container [NOW AN AMMO BOX]. No bushwhacking is required at any time, so follow trail (i.e. don’t go following the arrow on the GPS), and you do NOT need to scale the cliff at anytime either.

More information on the park can be found here.
