Geocache Description:

Park at Hardy’s Monument N50 41.172 / W 002 32.971 (SY 61279 87545).(Park closes at 5pm but room for a couple of cars to park down road) Cache 800 yds. away. Leave car park in SW corner and follow inland path. All down hill to cache (Which means all uphill back!!!) unless you return by circuitous route which is more gentle. Don’t worry about loss of GPS signal, you will emerge from tree cover.

The monument which stands on Blackdown Hill (770 ft. above sea level) is often thought by visitors to be in respect of Thomas Hardy (Who lived and wrote but a few miles away). However as you will glean from your visit it is in honour of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy who was flag officer aboard HMS Victory at Trafalgar, and to whom it is said, Nelson uttered those immortal words “England is safe” and “Kiss me Hardy”. There are those that claim a more logical version of “Kismet Hardy” and I fall into that camp, thus the cache name. He lived from age 9 at Portesham which is a mile south. His home can still be seen there.
There can be a few nettles around at certain times. Best approached from lower path.
400ml cliptop container.
NB. NOT IN OR NEAR WALL
