Sauk River 2006

From the trailhead 2.9 miles
south of Darrington you will enjoy this easy 3.0-mile round trip
walk along the Sauk River with patches of big trees and wild river
views.
This area was logged in the 1930’s but at the north end of the
trail you can see patches of old growth trees. In the late summer
and fall months, look for Steelhead trout in the river.
A Northwest Forest Pass is required at the trailhead. The cache
container is a 30-caliber ammo can. Beware of the stream banks as
many of them are under cut.
Please read the logs below for the current status of this
cache
Edit August 2006: The river has altered the bank of this
river and the forest service has moved the trail about ten feet to
the west so that people aren't walking on the under-cut bank. The
old trail can still be seen on the other side of the cache. I have
added a new picture to this page from about the same location as
the original photo. It's amazing what mother nature can do. I have
also added a new spoiler photo. Take a look before you go hunting
us the reception in this area is poor.
