Geocache Description:

The Peanut Butter SAND-wich cache is located off-trail (to prevent plundering). There is some bushwhacking through tall grass. You will not be able to get to the cache area from an island trail. The best access is from the southwest beach; take a stroll, then head inland when you're close. You are looking for a small lock n lock.

We spent an afternoon on this island, thanks to EraSeek and his Return to Jetty Island cache. Out of appreciation for EraSeek, and as a way to get others out to this area, we placed two more caches. We recommend that you use his cache as a marker for the best and least-crowded area of beach. Find his, then head northwest.

Jetty Island provides two miles of a pristine sandy beach. The water is clear and shallow, with very little seaweed growth. You can build sand castles and driftwood forts. You can go to the water to wade, swim, float, and watch the small fish swim nearby. There are no lifeguards, so plan to swim with your children.

Accessibility: During the summer months, you can ride the free ferry across the water of the Puget Sound (see link below for information on the ferry schedule). However, during the winter months, you'll have to provide your own means of water transportation. There are many boat launches at the Everett side, and docking/landing spots on the island. It is a short trip across the water (5 minutes on a motor boat). Keep your eyes peeled for harbor seals as you make the crossing!

Approval for this cache hide was granted from the park's Head Ranger, Kraig Hansen. He was nice, helpful, and excited about geocaching. He encourages people to make the most of their visit:

  • bring a picnic with plenty of water
  • play on the beach
  • time your visit for a special event
  • ride the FREE ferry (Wednesday through Sunday, July to August)
  • go on a nature walk with a ranger
  • find out all about the island and its wildlife
  • and, as always, Cache In Trash Out!

Please note: no dogs are allowed off-boat. There is no electricity or running water. There are, however, changing rooms and a restroom next to the island dock.

For information about the ferry, the park, and the special events, please visit the park web site. You can also call 425-257-8305 for the ferry schedule.
