Buttermilk Bay Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MadMin: I attempted to contact the owner of Buttermilk Bay Cache to find out about the status of this cache on February 22, 2008. I have received no response from the owner on the cache page or via email. Because of that I'm afraid I have to archive this cache.

I will be more than happy to review this cache again and (hopefully) reinstate it once you have corrected any issues with the cache. please contact me via ma.reviewer@gmail.com to do so.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

A gentle quarter mile walk through the Theodore Lyman Reserve in Bourne.

Cache is a two quart screw top container filled with an assortment of goodies.

Parking can be found at N41°45.840’ W70°37.842’ (WGS84) just west of Packard Street on Head of the Bay Road. Trail starts across the road from the parking area.

Theodore Lyman was a naturalist who, between 1867 and 1897, purchased parcels of land on both sides of Red Brook from its source to its mouth. Red Brook is a 4.5 mile spring-fed stream that flows into Buttermilk Bay. It is home to one of the last remaining sea-run brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) fisheries. The brook is tinted red from the iron rich deposits at its source.

Enjoy the peaceful walk through the woods and the views at the head of the bay. There is a lot of poison ivy off the trail, but none immediately near the cache. Check out the area and cache across the street as well.
