This cache was placed at a 'toadally awesome' location 2.3 miles off Hwy. 199 in the gorgeous Smith River Canyon.
We had been carrying the 'Toadally Awesome' cache around with us for a couple of months, looking for a place that really was 'toadally awesome'. The Smith River Canyon in and of itself is awesome, but this little hidden gem is extra special.
This cache can be as adventuresome as you desire. You need to drive 2.3 miles off Hwy. 199 and look for a couple wide spots in the road to park. The parking coordinates are 41.55.760, 123.43.978. Look for a faint scramble trail down the bank. The trail is loose rock and can be slippery, so be careful. In a very short distance, the trail splits. The cache is off to the left, but continue down the trail for a few more yards to an incredible view.
If you've used up your adventure quota for the day, admire the view, go back up the trail, and go in search of the cache. If you're feeling like Indiana Jones, you may want to continue on - there are ropes to help you - be careful!
If you bring kids or dogs, keep them attached to you. Becky, our Golden Retriever, went to the view spot and when we hid the cache, but the trip to the bottom of the trail is not dog or kid friendly. There are some steep drop offs to the cache site so hang onto kids and pets.
The cache is now in an ammo can since our great container with the giant frog on top has gone AWOL. We have moved the cache about 5 feet away from its original location, hopefully better hidden and less likely to be "muggled".
